My constant source of internal centering has always been exercise. As a teenager, I would spontaneously decide to make a twenty mile bike ride or a 5 mile run, just for the feeling of getting away and enjoying the outdoors. Eventually I became a snowboard instructor and later an ocean lifeguard. My training style is shaped by many influences including: barefoot running, swimming, bodysurfing, freediving, yoga, Pilates, martial arts and parkour. All of these activities promote a highly developed sense of body awareness. They are also all beautiful to watch. I enjoy the minimalism that is characteristic of these pursuits. By eliminating excessive equipment, the exercise becomes focused on the mind-body connection and both become stronger for the effort.

At the core of my philosophy is the concept of self creation. In terms of exercise training, this is exemplified by the body’s ability to literally shape itself according to its own movement. This idea has implications that go beyond physical health to include mental and emotional health as well. It hints at the profound potential for growth within us all. Life is about creating who we are and exercise is one way of shaping that creation.

Today I am a Personal Fitness Trainer certified through the American Council on Exercise and offer both private and group instruction.
